Steve Feldman works as a freelance illustrator and artist from his studio/home overlooking the old Oregon Trail in scenic northeast Oregon. Working traditionally with acrylics, watercolors and various pencils, he creates vibrant images with memorable themes. He also works digitally with a Wacom Intuos4 tablet and Photoshop for illustration projects.
Since 1990 he has created over 1600 commissioned freelance images. Some of the well known clients are The New York Times, Random House, St. Martin's Press, Scholastic, Delacorte Press, Wright Group/McGraw Hill, Qwest, Merk, Pfizer, Virgin, Chiquita and the Discovery Channel. Steve also creates commissioned art to suit the eclectic tastes of individual collectors.
For Steve, the division between fine art and illustration is not easily defined. Often there is a great deal of overlap. For Steve, the term fine art is reserved to describe work created without incentive or input from outside commercial influences.
Formally trained at Pasadena City College and Art Center College of design, he graduated with art degrees from these institutions in 1982 and 1986 respectively. Steve states, " I have no set agenda to promote with the content of my fine art or set formulas in the expression. My art is simply a documentation of my thoughts and experiences encountered on my personal journey interpreted through the creative lens. Current fashion, taste and political correctness are not considerations for me in the creation of my art."
